Questions

Common questions

What is the Andro-Somatic Method?

The Andro-Somatic Method (ASM) is a structured, evidence-informed approach to men's sexual health. It addresses erectile function, ejaculatory control and sexual desire through three phases: understanding, practice and maintenance. It begins with education and a one-week home assessment, followed by practice drawn from published controlled trials.

Who can become an ASM Certified Practitioner?

Professionals who hold a current license or registration in a health or mental health profession in their country of practice, such as physiotherapists, sex therapists, psychologists, nurses and physicians, and who work or intend to work with men's sexual health.

Can an organization or an app deliver the Method?

Yes. Clinics, health organizations and digital health programs, including mobile applications, can apply for the ASM Licensed Provider license. The organization's program is reviewed against the Method before a license is issued, and the license is granted for a fixed term.

Is the Andro-Somatic Method a medical treatment?

No. The Method is educational and practice-based. It does not diagnose or treat any medical condition and does not replace care from a physician. Men whose erectile difficulties began recently are advised to consult a physician regarding cardiovascular risk factors.

Is an ASM credential a license to practice?

No. ASM credentials are private professional credentials. Credential holders work within the scope of their own professional license and in accordance with the laws and regulations of their country.

Can I apply from outside the United States or Europe?

Yes. ASM is international in scope, and applications are accepted from professionals and organizations in every country.

How can I verify a practitioner's credential?

Every credential and license has a number, beginning with ASM-CP for practitioners and ASM-LP for providers. It can be checked in the ASM public registry.

When does the first cohort begin?

Dates, format and fees for the inaugural cohort will be announced on this site. Professionals and organizations can submit an expression of interest now.

What research is the Method based on?

The Method draws on controlled trials, cohort studies and systematic reviews on pelvic floor muscle training, aerobic exercise, weight and lifestyle, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, as well as research linking erectile dysfunction to cardiovascular health. The full list is on the Research page.
